This is Sera Evans. She is a single mum of two, who has worked two jobs for almost 20 years to provide for her kids and pay the bills. She is now a Plaid Cymru politician and Member of the Senedd, having joined the party just after sixth form and becoming a councillor in 2008. She is now using her position of power to help make a change to something that is close to her heart ❤️
One of her children is autistic, and sadly, she felt forced to make the "heartbreaking" decision to remove her son from Welsh-medium schooling, because she felt his needs were not being met. Now, she's trying to change that, so other ALN parents don't have to make the same decision she did.
Ms Evans said: "Welsh-medium ALN is a passion of mine and a concern. It broke my heart that I had to take my son out of Welsh-medium school.
"There needs to be more training and support in order for us to develop the workforce to be able to support children who've got ALN who want to stay in Welsh-medium settings.
"At the minute, I'm advocating for several people who are in that position, who don't want to do what I ended up having to do and take my son out of Welsh-medium.
"He's still fluent in Welsh because he's able to speak to me in Welsh at home but otherwise he would have possibly lost that Welsh so it has a knock-on effect on the Welsh language then as well.
"If we want true equality for the Welsh language then we need to ensure that all learners can access Welsh language provision settings whether they have ALN or not and I think that's a key for me."
