School transport

The Plaid Cymru team in Afan Ogwr Rhondda is supporting parents and carers in their campaign against cuts to home to school transport by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, which has recently withdrawn school transport from some school pupils in the county borough.

This continues to be a hard-fought campaign by parents and carers, and opposition councillors. School pupils and their parents and carers now have to either arrange their own private transport to school or walk in all weather conditions. Recent poor weather conditions have meant misery and illness, resulting in lower attendance for some pupils.

Plaid Cymru lead candidate for the Senedd election in Afan Ogwr Rhondda, Sêra Evans, has been campaigning alongside parents, carers and pupils. Listen to one of her speeches at Council meetings here:

The three lead Plaid Cymru candidates for Afan Ogwr Rhondda, Sêra Evans, Alun Cox and Elyn Stephens said:

“Education is so critical for our young people, and despite its investment in school buildings, RCT Council withdrawing access to Home to School Transport for our pupils will inevitably lead to poorer attendance and wellbeing. We need to make it as easy as possible for children to attend school and learn and not put barriers in their way. We’re aware that parents and carers in the Bridgend County Borough area are also fighting a similar battle for equity in home to school transport, and we also stand with them.”

Plaid Cymru is campaigning on a range of issues that are important to people in our communities.
